Have you ever seen people heading down the gym, with their new resolution to lose weight making them determined that this time, they are going to succeed? Maybe you hang out with different people from me, but the ones I see rarely actually achieve that goal.

It’s not so much that going to the gym doesn’t work, exercise is a big part of weight loss after all, but that this type of method is wrong. Once the novelty and euphoria of a new determination wears off, and you are stuck with a gym fee and an increasing doubt about whether or not this is going to work, you soon find reasons to avoid going back. Next time will be different though.

One of the most frustrating things for me here, is that a lot of failed attempts at weight loss were doomed from the start. Whether you try exercise, a diet (*shudder*) or some other method, unless you understand why we get fat in the first place, you will find it tricky to really lose weight.

If you do manage to lose it, keeping it off will be a whole new challenge.

It all comes down to your eating habits. It always does, and it always will. Most people interpret it too plainly though. The solution is NOT to just eat less, just like the cause is not just overeating.

How is eating less going to work really? When you eat less, your metabolism slows down, so you burn fewer calories. You are taking less into your body, but burning less. If you then try and combine eating less with doing more exercise, then you are also going to run into trouble.

When you exercise more, you need more energy,not less. There’s no point killing your body. You want to improve your body condition after all.

Does it not make sense that if you give your body what it needs; fuel, energy, nutrition, it’s going to start taking care of itself and working efficiently?

Therefore, the most important thing to focus on is getting your eating right from the start. If you can get this basic thing down, everything else that you do is going to be so much smoother.

I don’t like using the “word” attempt, because it will happen naturally. It might be more gradual than some of the more popular trends and fads that come and go, but slowly and steadily the weight will come off, and it will all be natural.
